Volunteering at Treehouse:
Treehouse Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work as exhibit guides, assist with programs and special events, and complete group literacy projects.
  • What do Treehouse Volunteers Do?
    • First tier volunteers, those serving fewer than 20 hours, primarily assist with cleaning tasks and with preparation of supplies. Volunteers who serve more than 20 hours will receive additional training for working with families on the Museum floor. Activities may include reading stories with children and families or assisting with activities in the Treehouse Art Garden. They may also spend time interacting and assisting families as they explore the Museum's exhibits. In addition, Treehouse Volunteers help to prepare for Museum activities, and assist at community outreach events. Volunteers can even act as costumed storybook characters during special events such as the Enchanted Woods in October and the Fairy Tale Ball in May.
  • Who Can Volunteer?
    • Volunteer opportunities are available for youth and adults 16 years and up. Youth ages 12 to 15 are invited to apply for the summertime SPY -- Special Participating Youth -- Volunteer Program. The application period takes place each year in April. The selection process for the 2010 SPYs will take place during the first two weeks of May and they will begin their service in June.
  • Treehouse can provide real-world, confidence-building experiences, and opportunities to acquire valuable job skills. To learn more, please call our Volunteer Coordinator at 801-394-9663 or click here to print an Individual Volunteer Application. For a Group Application Form click here
Donating to Treehouse:
Treehouse Museum opened in February, 1992 with 9,000 sq ft. of space the Ogden City Mall. During its nearly 10 years in the Mall, Treehouse produced award-winning programs and exhibits. Treehouse has received two prestigious Awards for Excellence from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in 1998 and in 2003. In 2002, Child Magazine named Treehouse one of the top 50 Children's Museums in the nation.

Treehouse was displaced from its home in December 2001, when demolition of the Mall began. Treehouse found a temporary home in the former Standard-Examiner building. The Board and staff of the Museum began in earnest to work toward a new, permanent home for Treehouse. In 2003, the Treehouse Board of Directors secured property on 22nd Street and Keisel Avenue, part of the Ogden Mall Redevelopment Project.

On May 9, 2005 hundreds of children and their families joined with the Treehouse Board of Directors, the Treehouse staff and community and civic leaders to break ground and celebrate the start of construction of a new, permanent home for Treehouse. Construction of the two level, 28,000 sq ft building is now complete and the new Elizabeth Stewart Treehouse museum opened to the public on August 19, 2006. Project costs for the new building totaled $6 million. The Stewart Education Foundation completed the campaign with a naming gift. However, due to interest charges on the construction loan, some fundraising remains. Treehouse welcomes and appreciates any donations in support of construction costs, or in support of ongoing exhibits and programs, or of general operating expenses.
