Treehouse Troupe 2011-2012 Season
Saturday Evenings in November, January & March

Treehouse Children’s Museum is proud to announce the the 2011-12 season of Treehouse Troupe Performances for Families. These fully staged and costumed plays, performed by professional actors and directed by Treehouse’s Program Coordinator Wes Whitby, are the perfect introduction for young children to live theater performances. The Troupe season consists of three original plays, drawn from fairy tales and folk tales from around the world.

The first play runs on Saturday evenings in November and is a very funny version of a story you will probably recognize. Titled “Straw to Gold,” this lets the Troupe go crazy with Marx Brothers style humor. Your family won’t want to miss this play. In January the Troupe will present the story of a clever cat, but this tale is about a cat that dresses in beautiful ball gowns, not boots. And, the cat is not the only one that wears beautiful costumes. In March the play is from Mexico, “La Ratita Presumida” of “The Vain Little Mouse.” Full of animal antics, this play, like all Troupe productions, is perfect for children ages 3 and up and parents and grandparents.

Treehouse Troupe plays are offered "after hours" on Saturday nights at 6 p.m. in November, January, and March, plus an added show at 7:30 p.m. on the last Saturday night of each run. Tickets are only $6 per non member or $4 per member adult or child per show. Members-only season tickets are only $25 for a whole member family to see all three plays. We promise a season of laughter, surprises, and happy endings. Last year many of the shows sold out, so don’t delay. CLICK HERE to download the 2011-2012 Season Brochure.

Weekly Family Literacy Programs: (back to top)
Treehouse Museum provides a variety of award-winning programs for families -- from weekly Family Literacy programs like On Track to Reading and Alphabet Soup, to Special Events like exhibit openings and celebrations, to performances in the Treehouse Theater by the professional children's theater company, Treehouse Troupe -- there's always something fun happening at the Museum.

    On Track to Reading
Our popular program for preschool-aged kids is all day Mondays, September through May. Especially for the Museum's youngest visitors, this wildly popular reading-readiness program engages toddlers and preschool-aged kids and their grown-ups in stories, songs, crafts and more, all reinforcing prereading skills designed to get children ready for school. We'll be doing story activities at 10:30, 11:30, 1 and 2 p.m. The Art Garden will be open all day. Mondays will be a great time to bring your young children. We will not schedule any school groups on Mondays and your reduced admission ($3 for children age 1-5 yrs. and $1 for adults age 18+) will last all day thanks to our generous sponsors, L.T. & J.T. Dee Foundation and Dr. Ezekiel R. and Edna Wattis Dumke Foundation. Remember that starting September 26, 2011, Treehouse will close at 3 p.m. on On Track to Reading Mondays.
Note: On Track to Reading is not held on Labor Day, the Monday after Christmas, MLK Jr. Day, President's Day, or Memorial Day, or in the summer. Regular admission rates will apply at those times and the Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Step on Stage
Step on Stage daily theater programs are presented weekdays at 4 p.m., September through May, and at 1 and 3 p.m. during summer months. We also host Step on Stage on Saturdays at 11 a.m. 1 and 3 p.m. This program features a variety of interactive experinces in the performing arts including Treehouse ParticiPlays™, puppet activities, occasional performers and more. Step on Stage theater programs are included in regular admission.

    Alphabet Soup
On Friday Nights at Treehouse, families can get a taste of Alphabet Soup and finish it before bedtime. This popular program focuses on a different letter of the alphabet each week with a recipe for family literacy that includes stories and songs, theater, art, science, history, vocabulary development, and more. Alphabet Soup runs Fridays from 6 until 8 p.m., and thanks to the sponsorship by the Marriner S. Eccles Foundation, Alphabet Soup admission is only $3 for children and $1 for adults after 6 p.m. Remember that Beginning September 1, 2010 Treehouse will close at 8 p.m. at the conclusion of Alphabet Soup.
Note: The Alphabet Soup program is usually omitted during October to allow for the Enchanted Woods. Please check the calendar.

    RAMPed Up Art
Join us for RAMPed Up Art in the Treehouse Art Garden, Tuesday - Friday from 3 until 5 p.m., September through May, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. summer weekdays and Saturdays. RAMPed Up Art features fun art projects inspired by the art and the stories of children's literature. The projects use a variety of mediums – paint, clay, collage, chalk, pastels, watercolor and paper – an exciting way to further explore popular and classic children's books. Ramped up art is sponsored by R.A.M.P.
